Legit 3DS Emulator

It's called Citra and it is in the extremely early public release. It does not play commercial games yet, and is slow as hell, but it is legit. Check out the source for more info. Here are some specs:

Hey guys…

I'd like to share a project that I've been working on with a few others for the past few months – the first public project to attempt 3DS emulation. "Citra" (https://github.com/bunnei/citra/) is an experimental Nintendo 3DS emulator/debugger written in C++ (and licensed under GPLv2).

At this time, it is in the very initial stages of development, and is only capable of running homebrew. It currently supports:

ARM9/ARM11 interpreter for the 3DS "appcore" – the processor core dedicated to running user applications

(Some) OS HLE to support userland interaction with the various 3DS OS services

Loading of ELF and launcher.dat files

Framebuffer rendering

Debugger with ARM11 disassembler, register view, callstack and symbol loading (written in Qt)

Supported on both Linux and Windows (MS Visual Studio 2013 Express)

I want to emphasize that for the long-term, this project will only (potentially) be useful to developers – there are many non-existent components that are absolutely essential to even loading a commercial game (and furthermore there is no gamepad or hardware 3D support, among many many other things).

Anyone interested in the project please checkout #citra on Freenode – there is no website/forums.

Trackball Mounting Plate Installed

Well I finally managed to find the time to cut out the hole for the trackball. I found a template online and for the most part it worked. The 4 corner pegs lined up perfectly, but for some reason when I cut the hole for the trackball it wasn't big enough. I had to make 2 notches at the top and bottom to get it to fit.

On a side note I also picked up a 20" wide screen monitor. I'm debating on whether I should make the switch. If I do then I'll probably make it physically rotate depending upon the games and systems.

Official Nintendo Ceiling Fan

Back in the 80's it was Nintendo Mania. Nintendo had their hands in everything...Including ceiling fans. Yes that's right it's the official Nintendo Mario Fan. Thus the final piece in completing my sons nursery. It's missing the glass globe which is a bummer...so if you have a spare and are willing to sell it.Hit me up.

Trackball Mount

I ordered a 3" trackball mount from groovygamegear.com. Fits like a glove.

Maniac Mansion remake

Night Of The Meteor

I'm really lookin forward to this being finished. It's a remake of the classic Maniac Mansion. The art style is done up like Day of the Tentacle. Which is another great game. Thanks to klopjero over at hyperspin for discovering and posting this little gem.

Go to http://www.night-of-the-meteor.de/en to check out the progress.

Zombies Ate My Arcade

Well I had originally given this cab away 2 times. First to a fellow hyperspinner, but then my little bro asked for it but He never picked it up so I ended up taking it with me when I moved. The cab itself is in great shape. I had planned on restoring it. In the process of restoring the cab I found out the the color red was bad on the tube. Then after that something went wrong with the gameboard. So after all that I decided to convert it. How could you do something like that they cry? Well I can do it because it's mine. It's been in the family for 30 years and probably will be for many more after that.

So growing up I was a huge fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I decided to theme the arcade after that game. There is a guy over at devine art who drew a crap load of Zombie video game characters. They are freaking awesome! All props go to him. I have his name written down somewhere but can't remember it at the moment.

To achieve a good print I needed some vectorized art. His charcter files are large, but not large enough to use without losing the quality. Below is a screenshot of his original and my redraw. His has more detail and shadowing, but mine isn't too shabby either.

Wall Name Plaque

I got this idea from a drawing someone did over at devineart. It's turning out quite well. I need to make some minor tweaking to the 2nd d but it looks pretty good. This is one solid wire. No cuts or breaks were used to make the letters.
DISCLAIMER!!!
No harm was done to the controller. The wire is actually from a spare Nes cord I had lying around. The controller itself is an empty shell I had from a repair.

Super Mario 3 Wall Decals

Finally cut all the decals out. It took quite a while to do it but the end product made it all worth it. Here is a mach up of how it's going to look. I'll probably move the question blocks around a bit but the layout is good.

Question Block Curtain Rod Ends

A simple way to make custom curtain rods is to find ones with screw off ends. These are tin candy boxes that cost around $5 a piece. Drill a hole in the center of one side. Slide it on to curtain rod end and use a washer and bolt to attach it. Simple and awesome!.

Mario room baby update.

I finished painting and now started the dreaded process of cutting out all the vinyl wall decals. This is just sheet one of 2.

Pi Cart...in the flesh

Been a while since I've posted stuff. The Pi Cart is fully assembled. I replaced the 2 USB connectors with 2 covered connectors. I had problems with glue getting in the other ones when I was try to get them into place. Designed a new NES label as well.

Here's what it sort of looks in the inside. The controller USB ports and the power port switched places when I changed to the new USB connectors.

It's pretty much done. I wanted to use some USB SNES controllers just because I needed more buttons to play different systems, but when I updated to the new RetroPi version it's broke the driver or something. So I just ended up using 2 Phillips Recoil controllers. They aren't the best, but they do the job well enough.

Made a lot of progress on the Pi cart. Cut spots for the USB extensions, Hmdi, and SD card in the back. Did lots of testing of different emulators.

Pi Video Output

Well after messing around with the settings i figure out how to make the screen go from squish to this. Although it looks blurry it's pretty clear. Just a bad pic.

Hdmi to VGA

Lack of VGA out is one the biggest complaints people have with the Pi. Luckily there is a solution for that with this little converter. You won't be able to use it right away until you change some settings on the Pi to force output, but once you do you'll be good to go.

Life of Pi

Finally bought a Raspberry Pi. Seems pretty neat so far. If this project goes well I will probably buy acouple of more. I like the idea of having an old 300mhz computer in my pocket. Those are the computers that got me hooked in the first place so it's only fitting that I go back to my roots. Instead of blowing a ton of money restoring a millipede cab, I'm going to attempt to do it with a slice of raspberry pi and and LCD upgrade. More to follow soon.
